Every worker would like a safe, well-paying job that affords his or her family an exceptional quality of life. A union’s main goal is to ensure workers have a voice in on-the-job working conditions.
Unionized workers tend to earn higher wages and have more reasonable workloads than non-union workers. Better benefits such as health/dental/eye care plans in addition to pension plans are negotiated for members along with reasonable wage increases.
Unions set the standard for worker education, skill level, working conditions, and quality of life issues. Union members have access to ongoing health and safety training courses provided by the union.
In a union workplace members are not at the mercy of a boss or manager. You can’t be fired “at will” for no reason. Grievance procedures are in place to address worker complaints. Workers have a clear set of rights detailed in their collective bargaining agreement. These rights are protected by law.
