The United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United State and Canada chartered UA Local 136, on April 14, 1900. It has grown from the 11 original members to a local of over 1,440 members strong.
UA Local’s geographical area has grown from 14 counties in 1900 to include 22 counties, eighteen (18) in Indiana and four (4) in southeastern Illinois. Offices are located and maintained in Evansville and Bloomington, Indiana. Modern up-to-date training facilities are located at each site with the most current and innovative teaching techniques and equipment available.
Apprentices are trained in two separate programs, Residential and Light Commercial Plumbing and HVAC Apprenticeship along with the Building & Construction Trades Apprenticeship. Each program is registered with the U.S. Dept of Labor’s Bureau of Apprenticeship Training.
Extensive journeymen training classes are conducted year around, such as: Medical Gas Piping, Backflow Prevention, and various welding certifications, just to name a few.
UA Local 136’s members are extensively trained to install and service piping on all sized projects, from massive steel, automotive, chemical and power plants, to a single dwelling house.
Regardless if it’s organizing the non-union sector, training our journeymen and apprentices, registering our members to vote or performing various volunteer community projects throughout the year, UA Local 136 continues to lead the United Association into the new century.
